Sidney Ronald Snider, 84

Sidney Ronald Snider, 84, of Rutherfordton, entered his eternal life on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. He began his earthly life on October 5, 1938 in Davidson County, NC, he was a son of the late Sidney Franklin Snider and Elizabeth Beeker Snider.

After graduating from Reeds High School, he enlisted in the US Navy under the "kiddie plan" (if you enlisted when you were 17, they guaranteed you would be out before your 21st birthday). He was in the security group monitoring Morse code in Japan and Okinawa. He also played basketball for the Navy from 1956 to 1959. After the military, he attended Draughon College. He owned a Sealtest Milk Distribution Company in Greenille, SC, he then worked at Parton Lumber for 12 years. He then began Snider Lumber Sales and retired in 2005. Sid loved volunteering and spent many hours at a local food pantry. He served many years as a deacon at Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Janet Wellmon and LaDean Fritts; a nephew and two nieces.

His love was for God, his family, bridge and beating his kids in checkers. You could always find him on Thursdays at the Senior Center, playing bridge with his friends.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Loyce Ramsey Snider; the mother of his children, Vivian McKinney Greiner; his daughter, Pamela Blocker(Butch) of Brunswick, GA; his son, Stephen Snider(Heidi) of Pineville; his stepdaughter, Christy Houser(Steven) of Rutherfordton; there are five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The Funeral will be conducted at 12:00 pm Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church. The Rev. Allen Terry and Rev. Monty Monteith will officate. Marie Mann will provide a eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Pallbearers are Reid Houser, Nathanael Miller, Gilbert Ramsey, Brendan Ross, Alex Snider, and Nick Snider; Honorary Pallbearers are Eric Arrowood, Steven Houser, Clay Lovelace, and Michael Whiteside.

The Visitation will be from 10:15 am until 11:45 am Saturday at the church prior to the service.
