Richard Rupp, 67, of Hollis, died Monday, September 26, 2022.
He was the son of the late Richard and Evelyn Rupp, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Travers Rupp, and his sister Mary Rupp.
Rick Rupp lived a life of creativity, ingenuity, and music. He built a life of love and family and surrounded himself with the beauty of nature and science. Rick loved traveling and never forewent a new experience. He believed in the power of education and that anyone could learn anything. He was especially passionate about technology and teaching children the power of their own minds.
Rick loved his family intensely and left them with a legacy of a gorgeous family property, lessons of patience and intentionality, and idyllic childhood memories filled with music, hard wark, and appreciation for what we have.
Born in Lake Wales, FL, he met and married his high school sweetheart. They moved as quickly as possible to Hollis where they worked the land, built homes, and created a community.
Rick lived every day with gratitude and devotion. His final moments included some of his favorite things, people and places.
Rick played the piano, guitar, dulcimer, and banjo. Classically trained, he especially loved the piano and wrote hundreds of songs, with and without lyrics. He loved playing the piano for hours each day.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Rupp; his daughters, Dayna Michelle Causby and her husband Jack Dewayne Causby, and Erica Frances Rupp, and Marianne Lyn Martinez and her husband Luis Alberto Martinez Cruz; there are 3 grandchildren, Jimmy Travers Causby, Simon Michael Martinez, and Eliana Doris Martinez.
A Visitation will be held from 1 pm until 3 pm Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cleveland County Schools Educational Foundation Robotics Program, 400 West Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150.
