Mary Sue Burke Price, 87, of the Duncan’s Creek Community, passed away at the UNC Blue Ridge Hospital in Morganton on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Born on November 1, 1938 in Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Burke and Annie Sue Campbell Burke.
Mary Sue attended Hollis School, Sunshine School, and graduated from Ellenboro High School in 1956. She graduated from Kings Business College and worked for several years at Metal Service Corporation in Charlotte. She was also owner of Bostic Florist for several years and served as a member of the Board of Directors, Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce from July 2000 – July 2006.
She was a member of Duncan’s Creek Presbyterian Church, currently Duncan’s Creek Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and with her husband, worked with the youth group. For several years, she directed the Christmas plays, some of which she wrote. While serving as an Elder in the church, she was Clerk of Session for several years. Mary Sue served as the Church’s representative on the Golden Valley, Sunshine, Duncan’s Creek Community Mission Committee.
Mary Sue did the morning report for Cherry Mountain Fire Department on WCAB for several years, also sharing birthdays, anniversaries and community and church news.
While living in Shelby after her marriage to Richard Price, she served as an assistant leader for a Girl Scout troop and after they moved to Duncan’s Creek she served as a leader for the Girl Scout troop at the Duncan’s Creek Church.
Mary Sue and Richard enjoyed traveling, shows at the Foundation and gospel singings at local churches and did so as long as they were able.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her grandparents, Ben and Dovie McFarland Campbell, Grady and Lilly Ayers Burke, her mother and father-in-law, Noah and Alice McFarland Price and her son-in-law, Bert Sigmon.
Left to honor and cherish her memory are daughters Ann Michele Price Gurley and her husband Ron of Golden Valley, Eva Marie Price Sigmon and grandson Graham Sigmon of Duncan’s Creek.

Visitation will be at the Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home on Thursday, January 8th from 6-8 PM. The Funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, January 9, 2026 at Fairview Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest with Richard at Duncan’s Creek Church Cemetery following the service.
Mary Sue requested a special music service to be held in her memory soon after her funeral. This service will be announced here as soon as it is arranged.
