Marilyn Camby Long, 72

Marilyn Camby Long, 72, of Bostic, died Sunday, January 10, 2021 after a hard fought battle against Covid 19.
She was a daughter of the late Nathan and Margaret Proctor Camby.
Marilyn grew up in the Green Hill community and was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church where her love for the Lord was instilled.  She continued her enthusiasm for Christ and became an active, faithful member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in her adult years.  There she held many positions such as charge secretary, church secretary, and secretary of administration to the church council.  She helped prepare meals for fundraising, funerals, and family benefits. She always said yes when asked to serve and help others.
Church was also where she found her love for singing.  She had a kind heart and a sweet spirit and always had a song in her heart.  She was a talented soloist, a member of her church choir and also sang with the Foothills Community Choir and the Isothermal Community Choir.
She retired from Bellsouth after 34 years where she worked as an operator and a service tech.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert "Buster" Long; her son, Brian Long and his wife Jennifer, of Rutherfordton; her sisters, Phyllis McBrayer and Joyce Waters, both of Rutherfordton; and her grandchildren, Emma Long and Luke Long.  She was known to her family and close friends as Doodle.  Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren.  She leaves a legacy with them that faith and family is everything.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Cedar Grove Church Cemetery. The Rev. David Hawkins will officiate.
Friends may visit from 4 pm until 7 pm Wednesday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home to sign the register book and pay their respects.
Memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Fellowship Church, in care of Treasurer Sherry Lavender, 388 Brooks Road, Bostic, NC 28018.
