Jamie Van Horn Scarbrough, 70

Jamie Van Horn Scarbrough, 70, of Forest City, passed away, June 27, 2022 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. 

Jamie was born in Catawba County on January 25, 1952 and was the daughter  of the late James M. Van Horn and Ila "Betty" Goodman Van Horn. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Raymond E. Scarbrough.  She worked in banking for a number of years in Newton, Morganton and Caroleen. After the bank closed, she worked at Sonoco Crellin in Forest City, where she retired after 35 years. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. 

Jamie or "Nana" as she was called, loved attending her children and grandchildren's ball games, dance recitals, plays at church or school, and anything they were involved in. She never missed an opportunity to send cards for special occassions. She enjoyed shopping for the grandkids and going out to eat. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 50 years, David Eugene "Gene" Scarbrough; her daughters, Ashley Sears and husband David, of Ellenboro, and Angela Pinder and husband Erik, of Rutherfordton; her grandchildren, Lyndsey Sears, Katelyn Sears, Alex Pinder, and Addie Pinder; her mother-in-law, Leota S. Scarbrough; her sister, Beth Pace and husband Barry; her sister-in-law Lori Raby and husband James; her brother-in-law Mark Scarbrough and wife Leslie; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and her special fur baby Max.

A Service to Celebrate Jamie's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, July 1, 2022 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. The Rev. Scott Courtney will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Bryant Coburn, Cody Coburn, Bevin Deck, Trent Pace, Jason Potter, Tommy Sunday, Tom Pinder, and Alex Pinder. 

The family will receive friends from 12:45 pm until 1:45 pm Friday at the church prior to the service, and at other times the family will be at the Sears residence in Ellenboro. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children's and Youth Ministry at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 2676 Hudlow Road, Forest City, NC 28043.
