James Milton "Jimmy" Andrews Jr.

Mr. Jimmy Andrews, 72, of Andrews Mill Road, Bostic, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at Hospice House, Forest City.
He was born October 15, 1940 in Rutherford County to the late James Milton Andrews Sr. and Floreine Laughridge Andrews, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Stewart Maynard and a special aunt, Lucy Jean Andrews. He was a graduate of Cool Springs High School, attended Western Carolina University and worked with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service as a Soil Conservation Technician for over 30 years. He retired from the service and continued his passion for caring for the land by working on the family farm through his retirement and even up to the time of his death. He was a lifelong steward of the soil and land through his job, on his farm, on his church's property and in the community.
Jimmy was a lifetime resident of the Washburn Community and member of Salem United Methodist Church in Bostic. At Salem he served in many capacities ranging from Superintendent to custodian. During his life, he served as 4-H leader, girls Little League softball coach, and worked with county youth through the Future Farmers of America Association and is an honorary lifetime member of the Chase High School FFA.
In addition to his community service, Jimmy was an avid horseshoe pitcher and competed at many local, state and regional tournaments. The highlight of his horseshoe pitching career was winning the Elders I-2 division of the National Horseshoe Pitching Association World Championship Tournament in Knoxville, TN in 2012. Jimmy also used his talent to organize horseshoe tournament fundraisers to serve those in need in his community. Jimmy loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and spent many days watching the grandchildren's ballgames.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Spratt Andrews; three daughters, Bonnie Andrews Fisher and her husband Phil, of Matthews, Carol Andrews Winesette and her husband David, of Waxhaw, and Gail Andrews Tarlton and her husband Sean, of Pittsboro; there are seven grandchildren, Ginny and Garrison Fisher, Joshua, Matthew and Jordan Winesette, and Ellie and Clara Anne Tarlton; a special niece, Felicia Maynard Carlee of Lutz, FL; and two special nephews, Bryon Maynard of Lacombe, LA and David Maynard of Troy, TX.
The Funeral will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Salem United Methodist Church, 184 Salem Church Road, Bostic. Rev. Keyes Pendleton and Rev. Jeff Hamrick will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Tommy Porter, Robert Wells, Arlen Walker, G.L. Poteat, Jim Boggs, Bruce Hamrick, David Monday, and Larry Philbeck.
The Visitation will be from 5:30 pm until 8:30 pm Wednesday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service, 359 East Church Street, Bostic.
