James Vernon Allen, Jr.

James Vernon Allen, Jr., 72, of Ellenboro, died Thursday, August 17, 2023.

He was the son of the late James Vernon "Dutch" Allen and Ruby Katherine Harrill Allen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Deanna Allen Dills and Judith Elaine Allen; 2 brothers, Rev. Alvin Allen and Sidney Allen; 2 brothers-in-law, H.L. Frady and Champ Willis Allen; a sister-in-law, April Diane Allen;  a daughter-in-law, Amanda Atkins Allen; and a nephew, Steve Bradley.  James worked for many years at AGI and in later years had been a landscape watercolors artist. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir. 

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Allen; his sons, Jamie Allen and his wife Charity, of Bostic, and Michael Allen and his wife Myra, of Mooresboro; his brother, George Oren Allen and his wife Camellia, of Forest City; his sisters, Nancy Allen Frady of Granite Falls, Brenda Allen McEntire and her husand Jeff, of Rutherfordton, Sara Allen Sheppard and her husband Wayne, and Hannah Allen Jolley and her husband Randy, all of Bostic, and Kathy Allen Houser and her husband Phillip, of Boiling Springs, NC; brother-in-law Charlie Dills of Dillsboro;  3 sisters-in-law Judy Melton Allen of Spindale, Penny Allen Jones and her husband Randy of Forest City and Laura Allen Clayton of Rutherfordton; there are 6 grandchildren, Audrey Skipper, Benjamen Atkins, Dutch Allen, Dawson Hardin, Caleb Medford, and Caitlyn Medford; there are 8 neices and 14 nephews; and a number great nieces and nephews. 

The Funeral will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Concord Baptist Church. The Rev. Travis Laflin will officiate and sons Jamie and Michael will each provide a Eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are George Allen, Aaron Condrey, Jeremy Jones, Roger Harmon, Roger Wilkerson, and Bronnie Hamrick. 

The Visitation will be from 5 pm until 7 pm Saturday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.
