Georgia Carrie Murray Melton Morris passed May 6th, 2026. She was born January 10th, 1938 in Rutherford County, and was a daughter of the late Horace P. Murray and Foye Lane Murray. A graduate of Sunshine High School, class of 1956, she worked as a hairdresser, and later performed detail work at Broyhill Furniture. Music was always very important in her life. She played the piano and sang in church, and was a member of the Homecoming and Foothills choirs.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Dwight T. Melton; second husband Walter S. Morris; daughter Melissa Melton Cannon; brothers Billie P. Murray, Zack C. Murray, James R. Murray, and an infant brother; sisters Gladys Murray Dobbins and Nellie Murray Moore; sisters-in-law Nettie Freeman Murray and Dorothy Moore Murray; and brother-in-law Carl Dobbins.
She is survived by son Mitchell D. Melton and his wife Catina Hancock Melton (that she loved like a daughter); son-in-law Barney Cannon (that she loved like a son), grandson James R. Cannon and his wife Ashley and great grandchildren Cameron and Carson; sister A. Frances Benson; sister-in-law Peggy Owens Murray; many beloved nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, and her beloved fur baby "Tigger".
For many years she helped with "The GOOD NEWS CLUB" Child Evangelism and still supports the organization today, helping children go to summer camp and learn more about God's love.
The Funeral will be conducted at 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Sunshine Church. The Rev. Gus Navarro will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where she will be entombed next to her first husband, Dwight T. Melton.
The Visitation will be from 1:45 pm until 2:45 pm Tuesday at Sunshine Church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of NC Foothills Chapter, P.O. Box 797, Boiling Springs, N.C. 28017; or Sunshine Church, in care of Treasurer Janet Gettys, 122 Pearl H Drive, Bostic, NC, 28018.
