Dylan Craig Russell, age 18, of Ellenboro was called home Monday, June 24, 2019. He was a native of Rutherford County, born on December 20, 2000, and was the son of Amanda Ann Smith and Joshua Lee Russell. He attended Ellenboro Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, East Rutherford High School and was a 2019 graduate of Rutherford Opportunity Center. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Michael Craig Smith and paternal grandfather, Donald Edward "Eddie" Russell, Jr.
Dylan was faced with many challenges in his life beginning with club feet at birth that required numerous casts and braces but it didn't stop him from learning to walk. Doctors said that he would require surgeries but God knew better. Dylan became an all star athlete in football and baseball. He was known for his running abilities in both sports. He accumulated a village of nurturing friends as well as their parents through sports. His kind heart and respectful nature lead him to be loved by everyone who knew him, including his teachers and coaches. Dylan accepted Jesus at an early age and that relationship was nurtured especially by Pawpaw Eddie. Dylan was close to his younger brother Logan, who admired him greatly. His cousins were truly loved by Dylan and they loved him back. Many great memories were made with his family during his short life. He will always be loved and never forgotten.
In addition to his parents, Dylan is survived by his younger brother Logan Russell; paternal grandmother, Rita Russell; maternal grandmother, Joanne Goforth and numerous beloved cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 28, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Jesus Way Christian Ministries, 311 Old Ball Park Road, Spindale, NC. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Helen Adams and Reverend Sam Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Jesus Way Christian Ministries Cemetery.
