Dorothy Melton Newton, 96

Dorothy Victoria Melton Newton, age 96, of Golden Valley, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 15, 2018 at Fair Haven Home in Bostic. Born December 15, 1921 in Golden Valley to the late Eli and Mary Etta Rollins Melton, she was the youngest of three children. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Malon Newton, her son Steve Newton, brothers Frank Melton and Tom Melton, and nephew Tommy Melton.
She was baptized and joined Golden Valley Methodist Church in 1932, always faithful and serving in various capacities until her health declined in later years. She enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers, and spent many hours canning, freezing and making pickles and jellies. A wonderful cook, Dorothy always had an apple pie or pound cake ready to share when family and friends stopped by. Dorothy was a loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She cared for her mother as a teenager, her father when he became bedridden and her husband in later life until her own health no longer permitted. She loved to laugh and spend time with all of her family, especially the grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Newton Wilson of Clover, SC; 3 grandchildren, Taylor Wilson of Clemson, Victoria Wilson of Clover and Nicole Reber of Dublin, OH; 2 great-grandchildren, Corinne Bradley and Emma Reber, both of Dublin, OH; 2 nephews, Don Melton of Golden Valley and Mike Melton of Mooresville; and father of her grandchildren, Fred Wilson of Clover.
The family would like to thank the kind and generous in-home care givers and the loving, supportive staff of Fair Haven Home who cared for Dorothy in her final years. She was a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ and is now rejoicing with her loved ones in heaven.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 2:00 pm Friday, April 20, 2018 at Golden Valley United Methodist Church, Bostic. Rev. Linda Stack Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Roger Brackett, Ron Gurley, Larry Hunt, Johnny McCurry, Andrew Scoggins, and David Yelton.
