Mr. Dewey James Toney, 87, of the Sunshine Community, died Monday, May 14, 2012.
He was the son of the late Wilkie and Bertha Campbell Toney; and was also preceded in death by a son, Jefferson James Toney; his first wife, Edith Freeman Toney; a sister, Daisy Murray; a brother, Larry Toney; and a granddaughter, Angela Simmons.  He was a member of Ross Hill Baptist Church and a  Navy Veteran of World War II. He graduated from Wofford College and received a Masters Degree in school administration from Furman University and taught school in North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and military dependent schools.
He is survived by his wife, Zenith Davidson Toney; two daughters, Rhonda Toney Simmons and her husband William Carl Simmons, of Clover, SC, and Jennifer Toney Helton and her husband Kevin Dewitt Helton,Sr. , of Sunshine; a son, John Dewey Toney and his wife Sherrie Jones Toney, of Sunshine; a daughter in law, Beth Price Francis of Ellenboro; two sisters, Mary Jones of Sunshine and Maude Beaver Towery of Hollis; two brothers, Carl Toney of Sunshine, and Floyd Toney of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Victoria Chapman of Sunshine; eight grandsons, Kevin "Chip" Helton, Jr., Brock Helton, Preston Helton, and John Dewey Toney, Jr., all of Sunshine, Matthew Toney of Ellenboro, Tony Toney and his wife Kalena, of Charlotte, Brian Simmons and his wife Missy, of Clover, SC, and Curtis Simmons and his wife Amanda, of Gastonia; nine great granchildren, Alexander Simmons, Lauren Simmons, Treston Simmons, Jackson Simmons, Tanner Simmons, Greyson Simmons, Joseph Simmons, Braden Toney, and Alina Toney.  
The Funeral will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Ross Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Earl Godfrey will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
The Visitation will be from 3:45pm until 5:45pm Thursday in the Ross Hill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service in the sanctuary.
