Devone McFarland, 82

Devone McFarland, 82, of Duncan's Creek Community, died Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

He was the son of the late Roy and Ruby McFarland. in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Troy McFarland; his brother-in-law Lloyd Greene; and a son-in-law, Shawn Charles. Devone was a lifetime member of Duncan's Creek Presbyterian Church, where he was longtime cemetery caretaker. He was a Army veteran having served in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Cherry Mountain Volunteer Fire Department for many years. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda McFarland; his daughter, Melissa Charles of Hickory; his son, Jason Johnson and his wife Amy of Mooresville; his grandchildren, Zoe Charles and Max Charles of Hickory, and Jackson Johnson of Mooresville; his sister, Adrene Greene of Duncan's Creek Community; and his niece Sandy Greene of Apex. 

The Funeral will be conducted at 10:30 am Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Duncan's Creek Church. The Rev. Drew Tomberlin will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military rites accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Pallbearers are Donnie Cantrell, Ronnie Cantrell, Ron Gurley, Jason Johnson, Jackson Johnson, Brian Freitas, Steve Miller, and Max Charles. 

The Visitation will be from 5 pm until 8 pm Friday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.
