Dessie Self Smith, 82

Dessie Self Smith, 82, of Golden Valley, went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2023.

She was widow of Arthur Maynard Smith, and a daughter of the late Charles Robert Self and Nannie Melton Self. She was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Charles Smith; a sister, Jessie Ruth Perry; and 2 brothers-in-law, Rev. Landon Rice and Leonard Bumgarner. She attended Golden Valley Missionary Methodist Church. Dessie worked for 60 years at PPG, which became Azdel later, and then Hanwhan.

She is survived by her son Steve Smith and his wife Donna, of Golden Valley; her sisters, Olema Rice of Golden Valley, and Esther Bumgarner of Forest City; her brother, Clayton Self and his wife Pansy, of Golden Valley; there are two grandsons, Travis Smith and Daniel Smith; and a great granddaughter, Isabel Smith. 

The Funeral will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. The Rev. Steven Cooper, Rev. Alan Toney, and Rev. Lamar Hewitt will officiate. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Landon Hoyle, Travis Smith, Daniel Smith, Terry Self, Jeff Bumgarner, David Bumgarner, and Cody Bumgarner. 

The Visitation will be from 5 pm until 8 pm Friday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service.
