David Michael Hardin, 39

David Michael Hardin, 39, of Ellenboro, died Friday, August 27, 2021 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of Rebecca Hamrick of Ellenboro and the late George Michael Hardin. David was a 2000 graduate of East Rutherford High School, a 2002 graduate of Isothermal Community College and also attended Appalachian State University. He worked for the past ten years in the office at Davis Motor Company.  He was a lifelong, dedicated member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where he served on various committees and was the Youth Director. He co-founded the Be Strong Anti-Bullying Rally and made the trip to Closplint, Kentucky each Christmas to deliver food boxes.  David spent many years volunteering his time with Forest City Little League, Upward Basketball, and more recently was the announcer for the East Rutherford Middle School Viking Baseball team.  He was the first person someone came to with a technical problem and he never hesitated to help with the simple things like reprogramming a tv remote.

He is survived by his wife, Charity Beane Hardin; his son, Dawson Hardin; his brothers, Michael Greene and wife Jennifer of Rutherfordton, and Steven Hardin and wife Whitney of Ellenboro; his stepmother, Brenda Terry Hardin of Ellenboro; 3 stepbrothers, Michael Deviney and wife Deidra of Union Mills, Mark Deviney of Ellenboro, and Douglas Deviney and wife Whitney of Golden Valley; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Alan and Trudy Beane of Ellenboro; 2 sisters-in-law, Lacey Deaton and husband Tyler of Bostic, and Nicole Duncan and husband Ryan of Forest City.  He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Warren and Margaret Melton and paternal grandparents, George "Bud" and Shirley Hardin.

David loved Elvis Presley and George Jones, GI Joe and He-Man, and was a diehard Dodge man who bled Richard Petty blue.  Family vacations were often spent either chasing down his childhood heros for photo ops or with the youth from his church exploring new places while doing mission work.  He loved old school wrestling with Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan and all things 80's.  David spent countless hours at  the baseball field as his son’s biggest fan and started off almost every morning having breakfast with his mom.  He and his wife were married 16 years and rarely spent a night apart.  David enjoyed making people laugh and could quote entire scenes from his favorite movies.  He lived his life to the fullest and soaked in every moment he could this side of Heaven.

The Funeral will be conducted at 5:00 pm Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. The Rev. Chris Glawson, Rev. Greg Dickens, and Rev. David Hawkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Jamie Allen, Chris Coffin, Barry Hardin, Michael Greene, Steven Hardin, Jamie Earls, Douglas Deviney, and Lee Melton.
The Visitation will be from 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm Monday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Oak Grove UMC Youth Fund, 1507 Oak Grove Church Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
