James Dale Pettit Sr., 75, of Forest City, died Saturday, December 4, 2021.

Dale was born January 17, 1946 and was the son of the late Willie Hall Pettit and Louise Hoyle Pettit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 half sisters: Ruth and Ruby Pettit, and Pauline Pettit Hoyle Lockwood. He was a lifelong resident of Rutherford County, and a 1964 Graduate of East High School. He served 6 years in the US Navy, 2 years of active duty aboard the USS Guadacanal stationed in Norfolk, VA, from 1966-1968, and then 4 years of active reserve. Dale retired from Trelleborg(Reeves Brothers) in 2007. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. He enjoyed Nascar, dirt track racing and his Carolina Tarheels. Dale loved his church, his family, and his country.

He is survived by his wife of 53 happy years, Beth Dills Pettit; his son, James "Jamie" Pettit Jr. and his wife Michelle; his daughter, Brooke Pettit Watson and her husband Chuck, all of Forest City; his grandsons, James Pettit III and his wife Elizabeth, Colby Lee Pettit and his wife Jessica, and Andrew Watson; his granddaughters, Brianna Watson and Kayla Watson; his great granddaughter, Caroline and a soon to arrive great grandson, Cooper Dale Pettit; his special sister, Kathy Hoyle Klassen and her husband Marvin.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Tuesday, December 7,2021 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The Rev. Mike Haire and Rev. Jason Madison will officiate. Military Rites will be rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.

The body will lie in state at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home from 9am until 7 pm Monday.

The family will receive friends at the home at 701 Morningstar Lake Road, Forest City at anytime.
