Mrs. Colleen Robbins Owens, 87, of Rutherfordton, died Saturday, June
6, 2015 at Hospice House, Forest City.
She was the widow of T.W. Owens, Jr. and daughter of the late Colon and Alta Garren Robbins. She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers: Lois McHam, Louise Donnahoo, Thelma DeBrule, Nellie Owens, Rev. Troy Robbins and Howard Robbins.
She is survived by four daughters and two sons: Claudia Owens Waters and her husband Jamey, of Rutherfordton; Jennifer Owens Orsak and her husband Joseph, of Wake County, NC; Phyllis Owens Love and her husband Randall, of Forsyth County, NC; and Patricia Owens Freese and her husband Mark, of Frederick County, MD, Greg Owens and his wife Vickie, of Rutherfordton; and Rudy Owens and his wife Paula, of Guilford County, NC. She is also survived by one sister, Hovis Robbins Ruppe of Rutherfordton. Colleen was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Collin Owens, Cameron Owens, Dylan Owens, Cody Owens, Caleb Owens, Mandy Whitaker, Ryan Love, J.T. Waters, Natalie Waters, Adam Orsak, Gabrielle Freese, Josiah Freese, and Joel Freese. Colleen was lovingly committed to Christ and her family. Her passion was her love and ministry to children. Colleen was a member of Kistler's Chapel United Methodist Church and served as a volunteer for the local chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was a retired teacher's assistant at Shiloh Elementary School.
The Funeral will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Kistler's Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Laurie Knoespel of Kistler’s Chapel UMC and Elder Mark Freese of El Shaddai Congregation, Frederick, MD will officiate.  The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 pm until 8 PM Monday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service.
