After graduation, he began his teaching career. He was a teacher and principal at Pilot Mountain School in Burke County NC. He then returned to Rutherford County and taught and coached at Sunshine Elementary School until his retirement in 1990. He touched the lives of his students that remember him in more ways than one. He was blessed to have developed close friendships with many of his coworkers.

In his retirement, he and his wife volunteered as mentors for the McNair Educational Foundation. He later enjoyed many years of working as an assistant with Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service in Bostic, NC.

C.C. was an active member of the community and in his church. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He was a loving husband, caring father, and devoted grandfather. He was well-known for his ability to tell a story and loved to joke around. He always had fun at work and at play. It wasn’t unusual to find him with a cup of coffee and something sweet to eat-usually chocolate.

C.C. and his wife Faye, who passed in 2020, were married for 65 years. They had many adventures together. Their travels took them near and far. They had many road trips, bus tours, camping trips, cruises, and visits to family and friends. In later years they simply enjoyed an annual trip to North Myrtle Beach in the fall. Time was well spent there with family watching the waves and people from their condo balcony, playing dominoes, and enjoying good seafood.
