Betty Towery

Mrs. Betty Towery, 79, of Jonestown Road, Golden Valley, died Monday, April 22, 2013 at Hospice House, Forest City.
She was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Geneva Poteet Whisenant, and was an active member of First Broad Baptist Church and taught Sunday School there. Betty authored several books dealing with genealogy and the history of Golden Valley and the surrounding communities. She had the distinction of serving as a constable in the Golden Valley in the early 70's.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Talmadge Towery; two daughters, Tamara Towery Grayson and Darla Sisk and her husband Donald, all of Casar; two sons, Dwight Towery and Michael L. Towery, both of Golden Valley; two sisters, Rama Quigley of Waukegan, IL, and Rachel McCurry of Forest City; three brothers, Dalton Whisenant of Black Mountain, Bob Whisenant of Charlotte, and David McCurry of Morganton; there are four grandchildren, Jonathan Grayson and his wife Kathy, Brandon Towery and his wife Hope, Christy Rochester, and Annisha Towery; there are three great grandchildren, Harley Looper, Ethan Grayson, and Torie Rochester; there are also two great great grandchildren, Kaylen and Hannah.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 26, 2013 at First Broad Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Bradley and Rev Kevin Towery will officiate.
No formal visitation is planned.
