Miss Arloa Bernice Webber, 100, of Hollis NC, died Monday, November 20, 2017 after a brief illness. Daughter of Carl Ross Webber and Erica Dorothy Anders, oldest sister of six children, Annemarie Walshlager, Charlotte Davis, Carl Jr. Webber, Emma Lou Mitchell, and baby Webber. She is survived by sister Charlotte Davis of Chicago, Neices: Barbara Rupp and family Hollis NC, Karla McBride and family Swannanoa NC, Lynn Wagner and family Hollis NC, Christine and Dianne Davis Chicago Ill, and nephews: Dale Mitchell, Jay Mitchell, Keith Mitchell and families Chicago Ill. and Great Nephew Jimmy Causby Hollis NC.
Ms. Webber moved from Quincy Mass. to Hollis NC in 2001 to be with her sister Annemarie and nieces Barbara and Lynn. She had lived, worked and played in Quincy for 40 plus years as an employee of the Federal Government. Her duties among many were liaison to visiting dignitaries to the Boston area. She held official positions in many various organizations and was a lifelong member of the Women’s Marine Association.
A World War II veteran, Arloa started her career in the first Women’s Marine Platoon and was stationed at Paris Island SC. She was a radio technician and was sent on mission to gather information while posing as a tourist overseas.  The Marines defined who Arloa was for the rest of her life. Wearing her winter Marine Uniform, she celebrated her 100th Birthday last February with 89 of the finest JROTC Cadets of Rutherford-Spindale High School. Later she asked how many of the cadets decided to sign up and proceeded to say “It was good to have a party there to help them make the right choice”.
She enjoyed traveling the world, camping, fishing, photography, writing poetry, community service, gardening, and vacations with her sister Annemarie and family. She was always accompanied by her many faithful dogs. A true to her word, dry humor trickster, she was always surrounded by many friends. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Services will be held at Black Mountain Veterans Cemetery. TBAL
