Mr. J.O. Gettys, 90, of Duncan's Creek Road, Ellenboro, died Saturday, July 2, 2011.
He was the son of the late Jimmy and Fannie Waters Gettys. He was a longtime employee of Cowan Tire & Battery. A member of First Broad Baptist Church, he was an US Army veteran, and a longtime resident of the Duncan's Creek Community.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Gettys; a son, Wayne Gettys of Bostic; a sister, Maude Melton of Casar; one grandchild.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 4, 2011 at Duncan's Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Rev. Charles Battle and Rev. Kevin Towery will officiate. The Rutherford County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors.
Washburn & Dorsey is in charge of arrangments.

I am so sorry for your loss! Mr. J.O. was such a good man. I considered it an honor to have known him. When we ran the store, I always looked forward to his visits. He was always kind and always had a smile for me. He was a hard worker. I know he will be missed by his family and friends. I want you all to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. May your memories bring you comfort, lean on God to help carry you throught this hard time.

I bought my first sawmill from Mr. J.O. Gettys. Wayne, I''m sorry for you and your mother''s loss. Your dad was a fine gentleman and I remember him teaching me how to run the 00-Frick sawmill.

I was a neighbor growing up in Duncan Creek knowing the gettys Family all my life .JO always friendly as was the whole family .I know you will miss him and my heart goes out to you in your loss. may your good memories with him help you bear the loss and i will keep you in my prayers.may God be with you .
