Rev.  Jeffrey "Jeff" Gurr, 54, of Bostic, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at his home after losing his battle to cancer. He is the son of Lawrence "Larry" Gurr and Marilyn Gurr and Emma Phipps Gurr.
Born March 16, 1966, Jeff was an Engineering Manager at Eaton Corporation. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Golden Valley.  Jeff loved anything outdoors: camping, gardening and working around the house. Jeff loved teaching Sunday School. Through his words he touched many lives and earlier this year he was ordained as a minister, something he was very proud of.
He is survived by his wife, Monica Gurr; two sons, Matthew (Jayne) Gurr, Brantley Gurr, and two daughters, Danielle (Travis) Tallent, Grace Gurr, and step-daughter, Cheyenne Yelton. Jeff is also survived by one brother, Chris Gurr of Michigan; four sisters, Shawna (Ben) Rodgers, Brenda (Fred) Walton, all of Michigan, Geiha (Bob) Harris of Ohio, and Heather (Erin) Warner/Siders of Florida. Jeff has three grandchildren and two on the way.
The Funeral will be conducted at 3:00 pm Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the First Broad Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry Ruppe will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jerry Allen Hunt, Travis Tallent, Charlie Hunt, Matthew Gurr, Chris Gurr, and Fred Walton.
The Visitation will be from 5 pm until 8 pm Friday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Brantley Gurr Scholarship Fund, or the Grace Gurr Scholarship Fund, and sent to SECU, PO Box 1376, Forest City, NC 28043.

I want to express my sorrow to the family and friends. I worked with Jeff off and on over the past 15 years or so at Eaton. I always thought Jeff was a great guy. He was extremely knowledgeable about all things with hose manufacturing, and always willing to help someone like me who didn't know as much. He was always a hard worker, at one point I think he had three jobs: interim plant manager, engineering manager, and MESH manager. Jeff's really shined though as a genuinely, good person. I don't ever remember him being cross, even though he had a lot going on. I will miss working with him.
I am so sorry for your loss.

To Monica and the entire Gurr family - May Gods grace bring you strength, comfort and healing at this time of sorrow. So deeply sorry to hear of Jeff's passing. It was truly a pleasure to work with him. He was always willing to help out whenever we needed his expertise. He had such a great sense of humor. There are many who will mourn the passing of such a kind man. My deepest condolences.

I only had the change to spend the last 18 months working with Jeff, but he made an impact on me during my first interview in Forest City. Jeff was a jack of all trades at work and always took time to go out of his way to help in my transition. I saw the same behavior with all new employees in the plant. Jeff will be missed and the plant feels like something is missing since he has been out.

Gurr Family,
I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Jeff was and still is a good man. He loved everyone and wasn’t a stranger to anyone. I may have met him and been around him a few times while in Foster Care with the Yeltons, but I do know how hard it is to lose someone so special. I hope the family and friends can gather strength from each other and fight the battle of loss. God took him to a better place to be free of pain and to live abundantly through him. God bless you and your family. Cheyenne Sanders Sydlar

My deepest sympathies and condolences to Monica and his children. Also my thoughts and prayers go out to my Uncle Larry and Aunt Marilyn. Growing up, I would see Jeff on occasional trips from my home in Northern Michigan to Jackson area where he grew up or when he and my other cousins came to Alden. He was always kind to me. And in later years even though he moved out of state and despite the fact that we are not blood related we kept in touch online and he was supportive of me even though we may not share the same ideologies. He exemplified what it is to be a caring and loving human being to all. Truly a great man.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May your soul rest in peace. I am from Eaton,India and worked with Jeff in few projects starting way back in 2009 and still remember the way he helped me in the successful completion of the projects. Jeff was our single point of contact for all of engineers from Eaton India for any support and information. His immense knowledge on the field helped all for smooth working. will be remembered for ever and we will miss you...

Gurr Family, My thought and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I've only been with Eaton 10 months and Jeff made a big impact on me personally. I can always remember Jeff interviewing me. He was such a humble, kind, Godly man. I can remember seeing his bible on his bookcase. We started talking about God and the bible and I immediately like him. He will be missed. God gained an angle.

Jeff did not have to stand behind a pulpit to share the word of God.....he lived it and that is the greatest sermon to be heard. You all are in my heart and prayers.
