Hattie Faye Calton Brackett, age 85, of Bostic , passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC from complications after a recent fall in the home.
Faye was born August 4, 1934 in Sunshine, NC.  She was the daughter of the late Fitzhugh Lee Calton and Hattie Koone Calton.  She was predeceased by her sister-Martha Ellen Lockey and husband Al, her brother-F. L. Calton and wife Winona, her sister-Dorothy Melton and husband Tom, and her brother-in-law A. B. Brackett and wife Una.
Faye was born and raised on her family’s dairy farm at the foot of Cherry Mt. in Sunshine NC.  She was a graduate of Sunshine High School and Appalachian State Teachers College. During her teaching career, she taught elementary school in Greenville, SC, Burke County Schools NC, and Rutherford County Schools at Forest City Elementary and Dunbar Elementary.  She touched the lives of her many students and cherished the friendships she made with her fellow teachers.
She was a fine example of a Christian lady and served her church and community wherever she was needed. She was well known for her friendly smile, welcoming nature, and good cooking.
Family was very important to her and filled a big part of her life.  She enjoyed small gatherings, as well as, family reunions and celebrations. She was a loving wife, caring mother, and devoted grandmother. She was always there for us.
Faye and her husband, C.C., were married for 65 years.  They always enjoyed traveling. Over the years, they had many road trips, bus tours, camping trips, cruises, and visits to family and friends near and far. More recently they simply enjoyed an annual trip to North Myrtle Beach in the fall. Time was well spent with family sitting on the condo balcony, eating seafood, and playing dominoes.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her husband-C.C. Brackett, her daughter-Lynn B. Wall and husband Roger of Bostic, her daughter-
Gail Brackett of Durham, her grandson-Nicholas Ryan Wall of Forest City, her brother-Javan Calton and wife Ann of Bostic, her brother-in-law Don Brackett and wife Fannye of Bostic, her brother-in-law Frank Brackett and wife Corinne of Lancaster, SC, her much loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Although we were not able to physically be with Faye the last 2 weeks of her life, the family was comforted to know the prayers of those who loved her surrounded her during her hospital stay.
A private family graveside service will be held at Cedar Grove UMC. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date when it is safer for family and friends to gather.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 160 Toney Road, Bostic NC 28018.

So sorry to hear the sad news of Faye's passing! She was my classmate at Sunshine school, from the fifth grade thru our graduation! I never seen her but a couple of times since we finished school. I am sure that she was a fine teacher, so glad that she enjoyed her life, I too, love camping, traveling. She was only a month older than me. I am sure she will be missed. May God comfort the family and friends in this time.

C.C., Javan, Ann & family, I am so sorry to hear about Faye’s health and her passing. I always enjoyed seeing her and getting to chat with her. One of my favourite moments with her was when we played “Two Truths and a Lie” at a Calton Reunion; one of her answers was “My teeth are all my own”. We guessed it to be the lie, but all laughed in delight when she declared it truth. Her bright smile and kind, welcoming demeanour will be greatly missed. You all are in my thoughts and prayers, and know my family and I send you much love.

I was a frequent, childhood guest at Faye's ancestral home when her wonderful parents were alive. All my life I have known of her loving spirit, her service through the church's ministries, and her support of the pastors that served her church and community. I am proud to be an admiring cousin. --Rev. Dr. George E. Thompson
