Mr. Charles Lawter, 82, of Rutherfordton, died Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
He was the widower of Hazel Butler Lawter and a son of the late Fairest and Ida Ruth Edwards Lawter.  Charles was a member of Golden Valley Missionary Methodist Church and retired in February from Parker-Hannafin. He was a US Army veteran.
He is survived by his daughter, Joanna Street of Forest City; his son, Brian Lawter of Rutherfordton; his sisters, Jan Graham of Forest City, and Wilma Dotson of Kings Mountain; his brother, Roger Lawter of Mill Spring; and his 3 grandchildren, Lauren Street, Jeremiah Lawter, and Jacob Lawter.
The Funeral will be conducted at 4:00 pm Monday, July 15, 2019 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home. The Rev. John T Edwards will officiate. Burial will follow in the Walls Baptist Church Cemetery. Military Rites will be rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Pallbearers are Eric Smathers, James Bolyard, Billy Hughes, Rick Edney, Rick Hargett, and Phil Harmon.

Charles & I worked together at Union Carbide (Kemet) for a number of years. He was one of our trainers & together we wrote the training manuals used for each job. He was laid back & didn't let other people get under his skin very often. We had a very happy relationship.

I just wanted to express my sincere sympathy & sadness to the family of Charles Laughter..We are 1st cousins & he was such a nice & loving man, the short time i was around him..the last time i saw him we were at another cousin`s pigpicking barbacue on Green River.He always had a smile & a happy demeanor about himself..always joking around. He was a great & loyal man to his family, whom he loved! Rest in Peace cousin, because we know where your new home is..with Jesus, Praising Him Our Savior..Love you cuz.. (We will all meet again, one day soon!)
