Mr. Art Sigmon, 60, of Forest City, died Friday, March 18, 2016 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Marley and Sara Kate Davis Sigmon. Art was a retired middle school teacher with the Rutherford County Schools.
He is survived by his son, James Sigmon of Golden Valley; and a sister, Vivian Sigmon of Forest City.
A Graveside Service will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Cool Springs Cemetery. The Rev. John Ware will officiate.
The Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm Tuesday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rutherford County Backpack Program, 382 West Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043.

To the family friends and loved ones I am sorry for our loss. Mr.Sigmon was my 7th grade teacher at Mt.Vernon Elementary School. He was also my softball coach. I hate to hear of his passing.I have a lot of great memories of him and will always remember them. All of u are in my thoughts and prayers , may god put his healing arms around you all...

So sorry to hear of Art's passing. Even though I have not seen Art in many years I remember Art from school days, football at East High, and friends gathering in the neighborhood where we grew up to play basketball or just sit around and talk. Fond memories. Rest in peace my friend. May the love of God be with the family at this time.

Some people have a gift and he was one. Art Sigmon motivated students to do their best. He did it not from fear but by encouragement and genuine caring. He will live on in the lives of all the students he mentored.

My deepest condolences to the family of Mr.Sigmon. He was my 7th grade teacher at Mt.Vernon. He was a wonderful teacher and mentor to his students and we all hold fond memories of him. May the Lord Bless his family with strength and comfort during this sad time. (Mt.Vernon class of 1989)

My deepest sympathies go out to Art's family. I worked with him at RS middle for years. Art was a great person, a great teacher, and a great friend. He will be missed.

Mr. Sigmon was a great man. I had the privilege of knowing him a good long while in my youth. He never failed to motivate you with his words and ways. He will be missed and will always be my favorite teach. James sorry for the loss of your father. He was a great man. Praying for you buddy.

I have so many fond memories of old Mt. Vernon and Mr. Sigmon, from sideline basketball to bonfires on the softball field. I was so sad to hear of his passing. Prayers for you at this time.
