Mrs. Ethel Murray Queen, 86, of Jonestown Road, Golden Valley, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at her residence.
She was the widow of Ernest A. Queen, and the daughter of the late A.G. and Emma Hoyle Murray, and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Queen O'Connell; and sisters, Daisy Deviney, Katherine Hollifield, Mary C. Green, Annie Mae Crow, Lillie McCurry, and Letha Smith; brothers, John Murray, Julius Murray, and Jasper Murray. Ethel was a longtime member of First Broad Baptist Church where she served as church clerk and was a Sunday School Teacher. She retired from Milliken Corporation and was a charter member of the Golden Valley Community Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Queen Martin of Harris; a sister, Ruby Auten of Gastonia; a brother, Reid Murray of Boiling Springs, NC;a son in law, Lenny O'Connell of Lexinton, KY; there are four grandchildren, Amanda Ray and her husband James, Drew Martin and his wife Paula, Michael O'Connell, and Elizabeth O'Connell; there are three great grandchildren, Judson McAbee, Willow Martin, and Lizzy Martin; there are two step great grandchildren, Kelsey and Joey; there are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The Funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 8, 2013 at First Broad Baptist Church. Rev. Kevin Towery, Rev. Gary Smith and Rev. Robert Bradley will officiate. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Visitation will be from 5 pm until 7 pm Tuesday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service.

I was deeply sadden to hear of Ethel's passing. It gives us comfort to know she is in Heaven and we can see her again. I will deeply miss her. She was a wonder lady and I loved her dearly. I always enjoyed going to church with her and trying to visit when I could. Please know you are in our thoughts are prayers.
She also loved my Uncle Eddie Brackett and would make him cakes.
Our whole family will miss Ethel.
