Mr. Coy Emerson Toney, 98, of White Oak Manor, Shelby, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011.
He was the widower of Nicie Condrey Toney, and son of the late Lelon Clifford Toney and Claudia Melton Toney. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Lewis Toney and Larry Dean Toney. A native of Rutherford County, he was a member of Duncan's Creek Presbyterian Church. He had many occupations through the years: he hauled and delivered fertilizer when he was young; and owned and operated a grocery store at Five Forks in Cleveland County; owned and operated a sawmill; bought and sold used cars; but his favorite was buying and selling pretty carnival glass and finding them at the flea market.
He is survived by two daughters, Ethylene Spake of Ellenboro, and Catherine Burrow of Shelby; two sons, Foy Toney of Sunshine, and Clifford Toney of Ellenboro; there are 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
The Funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Duncan's Creek Presbyterian Church. Rev. Bart Shaw, Pastor Betty Shaw, and Rev. Ron Brauer are to officiate. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Visitation will be from 6 PM until 8 PM Saturday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. Coy will be missed by us all. It was my pleasure being able to help him out and look after him. I enjoyed listening to his stories. He was like family to me and not just a resident. It was an honor getting to have him in my life. My heart is with his family and friends.
